  • 1968 born; raised in Argentina, USA, Canada and Germany
  • 1988 – 1994: Studied social sciences (diploma) at Ruhr-Universität Bochum and at Universidad de Buenos Aires. Fellowship student funded by the DFG „Geschlechterverhältnis und sozialer Wandel“
  • 1998: Dissertation thesis (PhD) on the construction of the gendered body („Sexy Bodies“, 4th edition 2006 published with VS).
  • 1998 – 2001: Position as research associate and coordinator of the Marie Jahoda guest professorship for international gender studies at Ruhr-Universität Bochum.
  • 03/2001: Birth of son.
  • 08/2001 – 03/2008: PostDoc/assistant professor at the institute of sociology and social psychology at Leibniz-Universität Hannover. Guest lecturer in Fribourg (Switzerland), Innsbruck (Austria).
  • 10/2006: Birth of daughter.
  • 05/2007: Habilitation thesis in sociology of gender („Das Besondere des Allgemeinen – das Allgemeine des Besonderen. Die Kategorie Geschlecht in der Soziologie), authorization to teach in sociology (venia).
  • 04/2007: Guest professorship at University of Innsbruck.
  • 04/2008 - 11/2008: Visiting professor for general sociology and gender studies („Allgemeine Soziologie/Soziologie der Geschlechterdifferenz“) at LMU München.
  • 12/2008 – present: Full professor/chair for sociology and gender studies at LMU München.
